Meet Lori Melnitsky, MA, CCC-SLP

loripicLori Melnitsky is the director of All Island Speech and Stuttering Therapy . She holds the Certificate of Communicative Competence from ASHA and is licensed in the State of New York. Having provided therapeutic and diagnostic services since 1992, Lori has developed expertise working with children and adults with various speech and language disorders.

Lori’s initial experience with speech therapy began at the age of 4. She worked many years as a child to overcome her own speech difficulties. Her own personal experiences as a child who stuttered give her unique insight into the difficulties someone with a speech problem encounters trying to communicate.  Additionally, Lori’s older daughter stuttered as a young child but became stutter free at age 4 with proper help.  She continues to be fluent as a teen.

Lori earned her Master of Arts in Speech/Language Pathology from Hofstra University. She is PROMPT Certified and trained in the Lidcombe Program for Early Stuttering Intervention. Lori herself has participated in fluency shaping courses emphasizing easy onsets, smooth speech, and correct breathing patterns. Lori has coordinated support and maintenance groups for people who stutter. Lori believes strongly that people who stutter can improve their fluency skills and not let stuttering stop them from pursuing their dreams.

Lori is the recipient of four ASHA Awards for Continuing Education. Areas of expertise include: infants, toddler and preschoolers with apraxia, oral motor deficits, articulation and phonological disorders, language delays, and stuttering. Lori has recently been honored as a Fortune 52 women in the LI Press for her work and dedication to the field of speech pathology and stuttering. She is the co-chapter leader of the National Stuttering Association Adult and Teen Chapters on LI, and has presented nationally at various conferences, school districts and universities.
